Before creating my magazine advert I decided to create a mock up and explain how my research has influenced me choosing each feature.
Firstly, I have decided to put candles at the bottom of the advert so I can continue the fire theme and create an identity for Emily. I decided to do this because when I studied Adele's advertisement, I discovered that she kept the theme the same in all of her works. Also, this will allow there to be a blank space above for essential text information. Much like the digipak I am going to edit more flames onto the advert as it will make it look more interesting and create a depth of field.
In terms of the logos at the bottom of the advert, my research identified the conventional use of record label and download logos. Every artist's advert used logos to indicate what record label they are with and the place that they can download their music. Although Emily's music is currently only available for download on Soundcloud, I am going to use the iTunes logo as most artists have their music available there.
I will put the digipak cover at the top in the centre of the magazine advert as this allows the audience to recognise the album when they buy it. Adele's advertisement did this and the Marina and the Diamonds ad included it in the bottom left corner. Other adverts also included the same imagery from their digipak, this makes their work instantly recognisable. This is why I have decided to use the album artwork on my magazine advertisement. I will need to enlarge it so it is bigger than the actual digipak size because this will be too small for a magazine advertisement; my research indicated that the imagery takes up over half of the magazine area. Around the edge of the digipak I will put white rules to separate any areas of mismatching colour and to clearly define which part the digipak cover is.
The text in the blank space has been carefully selected based on their conventional use in the magazine advertisements that I studied before constructing my own. I noticed that "New Album" and "Out Now" were two popular phrases used in every ad, therefore I acknowledged that to adhere to conventions I needed to use these phrases. The You Me At Six and Foo Fighters adverts said "The New Album", however I felt that two-word phrases would remain in the audience's thoughts more and were easier to read in a short amount of time (the time it takes to turn the page of a magazine). I put a rule in the middle of the phrases as it's similar to the layout of my digipak back cover where I used the rule along the side of the tracklist. Therefore, I am keeping a consistent style. The rule that I use will be minimally weighted, possibly 3 or 5 as I don't want it to be too thick.
