G324: Audience Profile Research Task

AUDIENCE PROFILE

Girl Fashion - mediaThe typical female fashion for this genre can be seen to the left. The male fashion would be similar; jeans, tops with prints on them, jackets, vans/slip on shoes, trainers etc. The fashion of the audience would mimic that of the artist - in some cases copy the artists exactly. There can be quite a variation in fashion with a hybrid genre so this would be an example of more of an indie genre. The audience for this genre would enjoy going to festivals and listening to both live and recorded music. They might play an instrument or be interested in celebrities related to the genre. Again, because of it's wide audience it's difficult to point out a certain leisure activity that they would all enjoy doing. Their socio-economic background would also be difficult to determine but if they were to go to multiple concerts and festivals one might assume they're more wealthy as they can afford the ticket, transport and spending costs.

TRIBES
I went onto Channel 4's website and took a short survey to find out which Tribe I was in. I found the questions to have very generic and specific answers - none of which really applied to me. I answered as close to the truth as I could and found out my Tribe is "Rah". Channel 4 claim that "[my] diary is packed with social engagements, and [I've] been to a Hunt Ball more than once". I'm not sure what this means but as mentioned, the questions were very specific so this wasn't an accurate survey. I was also told "heritage labels" are for me - again not really true. Lastly, I was informed that i "spent [my] gap year doing charity work and drinking heavily" - although I'd like to take a gap year to do charity work this hasn't happened yet. According to Channel 4 only 9% of the South East of England are in the "Rah" Tribe. It didn't really mention anything about my musical preferences but I would assume that the Rah Tribe are into pop music - which I'm definitely not!

  2. For the first part of this task, it might be worth sourcing pictures of fans at the gigs/concerts to highlight audience style. Also, how much could you link this research to your own chosen artist's style?
